Bruce Erickson
President and CEO
Bruce joined Franke Tobey Jones in 2010 as President and CEO, with over 25 years experience in leading high quality, non-profit continuing care retirement communities. With a long history of innovations and initiatives designed to improve the quality of life for aging people, Bruce brings a fresh vision to the organization, as it seeks to continue a rich tradition as a leader in aging services.
Prior to his arrival at Franke Tobey Jones, Bruce served in executive roles with continuing care retirement communities near Atlanta for 16 years. In addition to leadership responsibilities with these communities, Bruce helped to strengthen aging services statewide by chairing the boards of the Aging Services of Georgia and the Center for Positive Aging, as well as serving as a founding advisory board member for the Culture Change Network of Georgia. Bruce holds a Masters in Health Administration from the University of Washington.
Judy Dunn
Vice President of Finance and Support
Services
With more than 20 years of accounting and non-profit management experience, Judy is a great asset to Franke Tobey Jones. In addition to Accounting and Administration, Judy manages the Information Technology and Support Services functions. She has excellent management skills and has been invaluable in making sure Franke Tobey Jones remains a fiscally responsible organization. Graduating from the University of Wisconsin, Judy earned her Bachelors Degree in Accounting. Her professional affiliation is with Healthcare Financial Management Association. Her past and present community and civic activities include the YWCA Pierce County, The Fund for Women and Girls, Annie Wright School, and the Tacoma Farmers Market.
Michelle Matz
Senior Director of Residential Accommodations
Michelle has been with Franke Tobey Jones since 1999, and continues to
enjoy building relationships with the residents and their families. Michelle began her career while attending college in 1984, and she remained in retail management until 1996. After working with Windemere Real Estate as a Listing Coordinator, she embarked on her journey with Franke Tobey Jones. One of Michelle’s highlights during her time at FTJ has been her integral involvement in the planning and completion of a $13 million building project to incorporate a brand new independent apartment complex and Wellness Center on campus.
Michelle enjoys helping residents and their families work through the feelings that go along with a lifestyle change and deal with the challenges that many seniors face in their own homes. The high standards, excellent reputation and beautiful campus that Franke Tobey Jones offers makes it easy for her to love her job, and the people that live and work at Franke Tobey Jones.
Christine Hall, MIRM, CSP, CMD, ATM
Senior Director of Marketing and Public
Relations
Christine
Hall has been a marketing and public relations specialist for the past 25
years. Before joining Franke Tobey Jones Christine was the Vice President of
Marketing for Jenamar Communities where she developed the brand and
marketing program for Jubilee, an active adult community in Lacey, WA. Her
other marketing experience includes nearly ten years with Weyerhaeuser Real
Estate Company as the Director of Marketing at Northwest Landing in DuPont,
WA and eleven years marketing regional shopping centers in four states.
Chris has a BA Degree from the University of Washington (Seattle) with a major in Communications. She has earned both a MIRM designation (Member – Institute of Residential Marketing) and CSP (Certified New Home Sales Professional) through the National Association of Home Builders, a CMD designation (Certified Marketing Director) through the International Council of Shopping Centers and an ATM designation (Advanced Toastmaster) through Toastmasters International. While working at Northwest Landing she belonged to Toastmasters International for eight years and served in many leadership roles including Toastmaster District Governor in Western Washington.
Sarah Idstrom
Senior Director of Development
Sarah
has 15 years of fund development experience, previously as Pierce County
Campaign Manager for ArtsFund, Director of Development Information at the
University of Puget Sound, Director of Annual Fund for The Saint Paul
Chamber Orchestra, and Regional Campaign Manager for the University of
Minnesota’s Capital Campaign. She also previously held the position of Vice
President of Trust Administration at Key Private Bank. Sarah holds a B.A.
degree in English Literature from Macalester College in St. Paul and a M.A.
degree in English Literature from the University of Minnesota. She currently
Chairs the Tacoma Arts Commission, and has served on the board of the Tacoma
Youth Chorus, Tacoma Actors Guild, the ArtsFund’s Pierce County Cabinet and
UMO. Sarah has lived in Tacoma for approximately 20 years.
Jim Tonjann
Senior Director of Dining Services
Jim has over 26 years experience in food services, with over 21 of that in management. He has been affiliated with Franke Tobey Jones since 1989. He graduated from culinary arts school in 1977 and has a kitchen design background for Health Care facilities. Jim previously served eight years with the Air Force in food services.
Carol Whitman, RN
Senior Director of Clinical Services
Carol comes to Franke Tobey Jones with more than 25 years of experience in
Nursing Management and Healthcare Administration, most of which was focused
on long-term care. She has held the positions of Director of Nursing
Services, Licensed Nursing Home Administrator, and Residence Director for
skilled nursing facilities, assisted living and Alzheimer’s/memory care
residences. Additionally, she worked as a Care Manager for a company in the
private sector. Prior to this, Carol’s nursing practice included operating
room, cardiology, urgent care, clinic and psychiatry. Carol is passionate
about the quality of life and care for seniors at any level of care they may
require, and enjoys working together as a team with the residents, families,
staff and outside providers to ensure that all in our community receive the
excellent care and service they need and deserve.
Carol has served as a member and chairperson of the Tri-County Long-Term Care Ombudsman Advisory Board, volunteered on a Rescue Squad as a Certified Emergency Medical Technician, and is a member of Pierce County’s CERT team (Community Emergency Response Team). She also is a bone marrow donor for the national organization “Be the Match.”
Myrna Frasier
Director of Building Services
Myrna been affiliated with Franke Tobey Jones for the past year, and has
over twenty-five years of progressive management and facilities experience
within private, non-profit organizations, as well as government and
municipal agencies in the fields of real property and facility management
and operations.
Myrna holds professional certification as a Certified Facility Manager (CFM) through the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) and through the University of Washington.
She has a passion for enhancing employee involvement and for community empowerment. It is easy to love the job because of the people that live and work at Franke Tobey Jones, the quality standards, the beautiful campus and excellent reputation that Franke Tobey Jones had earned through the years.
Carol White
Human Resources Director
Carol came to FTJ in
2004 after working for 15 years in the manufacturing
industry in which she gained a wide array of experiences going beyond just
that of Human Resources. These experiences have provided a depth of insight,
knowledge and understanding which have been extremely valuable to the
position she holds today.
