A neighborhood with nature, culture and community at its core
Tacoma’s North End is proving to be one of the most desirable retirement destinations in the Pacific Northwest, thanks to its rare blend of scenic beauty, cultural amenities and community charm. Residents in this corner of the city find themselves surrounded by some of Washington’s most celebrated destinations, all within minutes of their front door.
The Pacific Northwest has always attracted those who crave both natural beauty and cultural richness. Imagine waking each morning to panoramic views of Puget Sound, strolling through a 760-acre urban park just steps from your front door and ending your day with dinner on a lively waterfront promenade as the sun dips behind the Olympic Mountains.
For retirees seeking a lifestyle that blends relaxation, adventure and convenience, Franke Tobey Jones in Tacoma’s North End offers a uniquely PNW setting.

Effortless access to the best of Northwest living
Perched above the water with sweeping views of Mount Rainier and lush gardens all around, Franke Tobey Jones provides easy access to the best of Northwest living. On one side lies Point Defiance Park, one of the largest urban parks in the United States, with forests, trails, gardens, a zoo and an aquarium, as well as beach access. On the other side, Point Ruston pulses with energy: boutiques, cafés, outdoor concerts and a waterfront promenade perfect for evening walks.
Beyond the shoreline, culture thrives. Downtown Tacoma’s museums, theaters and restaurants are just minutes away, offering world-class glass art, symphony performances and culinary delights — not to mention Brewery Row and an emerging and vibrant destination for wine enthusiasts. Championship golf and the Tacoma Yacht Club are also minutes away.
Meanwhile, the nearby Proctor District charms with its Saturday farmers market and small-town feel. Add to this the convenience of being only 30 miles from Sea-Tac International Airport, and it’s easy to see why this community has become a destination for retirees ready to live boldly in their next chapter.
At the heart of this unique setting is Franke Tobey Jones, a not-for-profit senior living community that has called Tacoma home for more than a century. Franke Tobey Jones provides the peace of mind of lifelong support while encouraging residents to fully embrace the surrounding environment. Here, every day feels like an opportunity — to breathe in the salt air, to explore a trail, to savor a meal or to welcome friends and family for a visit. It’s more than a place to live. It’s a way to embrace the best of the Pacific Northwest.
