Happenings at the Point Defiance Ruston Senior Center
Before I talk about our upcoming events, I want to take a moment to thank everyone who participated in our Joeseppi’s Takeover! We had a wonderful turnout, in both volunteers and patrons. Without you both, we could not have made this the success it was so thank you each and every one who attended! We have not yet heard what the amount was that was raised for the Center, but your support was phenomenal and greatly appreciated! Thank you again!
Now, for the calendar and upcoming events. There is a lot going on including a couple of closures. The Senior Center will be closed on Wednesday, December 25 for Christmas and on Wednesday, January 1 for New Years.
There will be a few opportunities to celebrate the holidays in December. This year’s holiday party will be held on Thursday, December 12, beginning at approximately 11:10 a.m. Lynn Vrooman will be on piano, singing the favorites of the holidays. Everyone is encouraged to join in the singing and enjoy the refreshments. A special lunch will be prepared by Carmen Volk and her volunteers for this occasion. The meal will include roast turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, pumpkin pie and more. (Cost is $3.00.) On Friday, December 20, Chris Hall, Jane Schuneman and Trudy Turpin will be performing for you. They are all accomplished musicians and have performed locally, nationally, and, in some cases, internationally.
Trips include our monthly Red Wind trip on Friday, December 6 and a trip to Molbak’s Nursery on Saturday, December 14. We also have introduced another 2020 trip to New York City at the holidays. This trip will include a visit to Radio City Music Hall and a play on Broadway. If you are interested, the brochures are here and the travel presentation has been scheduled for January 29, 2020.
The Caregiver Support Group will be held on Tuesday, December 3 and 17 at 2:00 p.m. Gifts in a Jar is on Friday, December 6; Medicare Minute is Monday, December 9; Swagin’ with Candy and Dennis is on Tuesday, December 10; and Canning with Friends is on Friday the 13th. Times for these classes can be located in the calendar.
There will be a Tree Trimming Party on Friday, December 6. Lunch that day will consist of spaghetti and meat sauce, salad, garlic bread and a dessert.
May your holidays be filled with love and happiness; and your new year with only good things to come!
