Elegies, Obits, & Honoring Life in Writing: A Creative Exploration with Dr. Sarah A. Chavez
Together in this writing workshop, we’ll take the heart of the elegy—a traditional literary form expressing emotions around grief and loss—and combine it with more contemporary play on obituaries and eulogies. In mirroring the variety of losses we—and the world—have experienced, our writing can range from an obituary for the loss of sense of smell, a formal-toned eulogy for the death of the concept of our favorite print newspaper, or a traditional elegy mourning the loss of a loved one. Through this writing, we will frame, reframe, and place ourselves in the current context of loss we find ourselves, while hopefully building greater capacity for healing and joy. This program is made possible by a generous donation to Senior University.
