1980 – Higher Vacancy, Increased Costs and Competition Issues

With the Tobey Jones building being outdated, more vacancies, high operating costs and more competition, the Board of Directors conducted a study and an in-depth analysis of what steps could be taken to turn the situation in a positive direction.  Many strategies were discussed, and a plan was made.  Part of the plan included selling the acreage that is now “Solstice” as well as obtaining a skilled nursing license in addition to the current Boarding Home licenses as the competition did not operate under dual licenses.  Furthermore, the Tobey Jones building would be renovated, the Home would engage a public relations firm to start advertising and a survey of the public would be taken to get their opinions on FTJ services, quality and attractiveness.  A survey of the real needs of prospects needed to be studied before any funds were expended to build a wing.
