1982 – $1 Million Tobey Jones Building Renovation Includes New Amenities
“The Franke Tobey Jones Home on the edge of Point Defiance Park tomorrow will launch a $1 million renovation project on the oldest of its two Tudor-style, four story residence buildings. Built in 1924, the Franke Tobey Jones Building will receive a complete interior remodeling. The relocation of more than 50 residents was completed last week. They were moved to the neighboring building and to another local retirement home on a temporary basis. The remodeling will provide 26 single and seven double rooms with completely new services. A new health spa will include a jacuzzi, exercise equipment, showers and a dressing room. [Also part of the renovation included double-pane windows, a new four-story elevator, craft rooms and a beauty shop.] The new 500 square foot apartments will contain a living area with separate bedroom, private bath and built-in kitchen if desired by the resident. Upon completion, administrator Charles Carlsson said, “we will accommodate 120 residents in both buildings, plus 23 patients in the Health Care Center.”
