Christy Santos (Team Member)

Christy is a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Franke Tobey Jones.  She met and married Rolando Santos in Manila, Philippines.  His job with the U.S. Navy brought them to Illinois, Florida, Virginia, and Guam.  When Rolando retired from the Navy in 1980, he settled his family in Tacoma, Washington, a state they had enjoyed on their vacations over the years.

During one of Christy’s walks exploring her new neighborhood, she saw buildings which she thought were part of a college campus and decided to check them out.  The “college” turned out to be Franke Tobey Jones.  Instead of getting an admissions application, Christy got an employment application!  She started working for FTJ as a Nursing Assistant in July 1981.  Living only about a mile away from FTJ has been a big plus over the years, but especially when her children were young.

Sadly, Rolando passed away in 2020.  It was a difficult time for Christy, but she found comfort in having her four children and four grandchildren close by.  

Christy is now in her late 70’s, older than some FTJ residents!  When asked about retirement, her reply was, “Maybe next year.” (Interviewed by Cora Bock)
