Project Overview

aerial site plan

In 1924, Franke Tobey Jones opened the doors to a new community, providing housing and services to the senior population of Tacoma and the South Sound area. Over these 90+ years, FTJ has expanded and developed new services and programs for its residents and the greater community. As we look to further carry out Mrs. Jones’ original vision and mission, we are proud and excited to announce the expansion of our beautiful campus.

Our plan is for three distinct phases and, when complete, Franke Tobey Jones will be home to over 280 seniors. See “Phasing” under Expansions Time Line below.

As a mission-driven, not-for-profit organization that serves our immediate and greater community, a capital campaign will be launched to help support a portion of the project’s expenses.

After many years of planning, exploring the needs and desires of current and future seniors, we are truly excited to continue to build on the legacy of a wonderful woman, Franke Tobey Jones.

Project Summary

With more than 90 years of experience, Franke Tobey Jones, a not-for-profit senior living community, has added to its services throughout our history and reached out to the community to meet changing needs. We have continually adapted to fit with the growth of the region. This latest expansion, still in the early planning phase, will increase services for residents and the surrounding community of seniors. It will include involvement from the residents, families, and surrounding neighbors interested in participating in the future of Tacoma’s vibrant senior community.

The expansion will include three phases, is estimated take between 5-8 years to complete and will help us to expand our services and programs to seniors both on and off campus, making our community one of the most comprehensive and integrated senior living communities in the region.

A Place for Community

Franke Tobey Jones’ mission is to “enrich and extend the quality of lives of seniors in our community.”  We are proud of our connection and commitment our residents and the community at large. Aside from serving seniors on the current Franke Tobey Jones campus, our Senior University program and the M.J. Wicks Family Wellness Center are all open to anyone age 55 and better, even if they are not a Franke Tobey Jones resident. Through our expansion, the enhanced Wellness/Fitness Center and Senior University classes will provide even greater opportunities for area seniors to engage in stimulating, meaningful and healthy activities.

As part of our community outreach, we also manage and operate the Point Defiance~Ruston Senior Center, serving seniors in North and West Tacoma since 1998. In 2015, the Senior Center welcomed 700 people per month for programs and activities as well as for nutritious meals. It continues to be a “home away from home” for over 2,550 seniors each year.
