Stadium High School—Herman Brix
While at Stadium High School in 1924, Herman Brix
divided his time by playing the lead in the opera
“The Pirates of Penzance” and down on the playing
field in the Stadium Bowl to hone his skills as a star
tackle on the Tiger football team. He went on to
start as a lineman on the UW Husky football team
that played Alabama in the 1926 Rose Bowl and
then won a Silver Medal in the shot put in the 1928
Olympics. However, his love was for acting. In
Hollywood his stage name was Bruce Bennett and
he played many roles in a 40-year film career.
University of Washington
The 1924 Washington Huskies foot-
ball team, in its fourth season under
head coach Enoch Bagshaw,
compiled an 8–1–1 record, finished
in third place in the Pacific Coast
Conference, led the nation in
scoring and outscored all opponents
by a combined total of 355 to 24.
The 1924 University of Washington
rowing team was one of the most
successful in school history. The team
won the national championship at the
Poughkeepsie Regatta by a comforta-
ble margin, and then defeated the
defending national champion, Yale,
in the final by a length and a half. The
1924 team's victory helped pave the
way for future success including winning the Gold Medal at the 1936 Berlin
Olympics in the Men’s Eight Event. This historic event was later immortalized in
the best-selling book “The Boys in the Boat” and in a movie released in 2023.

The men's track team won the Pacific Coast Conference championship, and
the men's basketball team, men’s baseball team, men’s tennis team and
