Congratulations to Angela Thomas, FTJ’s HR Director, on Graduating from the LeadingAge Washington Leadership Institute!

Angela Thomas, FTJ’s HR Director

We are thrilled to celebrate Angela Thomas, Human Resources Director at Franke Tobey Jones, for her recent graduation from the LeadingAge Washington Leadership Institute—a prestigious, months-long program designed to cultivate confident, creative, and collaborative leaders in the field of aging services.

This immersive leadership journey brought together professionals from across the state, offering deep dives into emotional intelligence, communication and values-based leadership. For Angela, the experience was transformative.

“What I took away most was the power of empowerment,” Angela reflected. “When you tell someone, ‘I trust you,’ you’re giving them more than permission—you’re giving them the confidence to act. You’re saying, ‘You have the tools; you can do this.”

Angela shared that this shift in mindset has already changed the way she leads at FTJ. “Before, I was more of a stickler—I wanted to control outcomes. But now I see that I can’t do it all myself, and I shouldn’t. Real leadership is about trusting others, giving them the tools, and helping them understand the ‘why’ behind our decisions so they can move forward with clarity and confidence.”

Working closely with senior living professionals taking part in the Leadership Institute program from other departments outside HR and senior living organizations across the state broadened her perspective as well. It allowed her to see challenges through new lenses and appreciate the diverse approaches to problem-solving that drive meaningful progress in senior living.

Angela also came away with a renewed personal philosophy—one rooted in self-belief.

“Don’t underestimate yourself,” she said. “When people compliment you, believe them. Let that affirmation become part of your confidence.”

Her growth reflects the very heart of the FTJ community—where compassion meets leadership, and learning never stops.

We’re especially proud to note that Chris Hall, FTJ’s Senior Director of Marketing and Public Relations, graduated from the Leadership Institute several years ago and then served as a Leadership Institute Coach for two years, mentoring emerging leaders like Angela and helping shape the future of aging services in Washington State.

Congratulations, Angela! Your insight, authenticity, and commitment to empowering others continue to elevate our community. We are so proud of your achievement and excited to see the impact your leadership will have—at FTJ and beyond.
