Finding Reliable Information on the Web
You hear it time and again. . .someone clicked on the wrong thing and their computer received a virus. Or, you find something on the Web that you think is real/accurate, but later find out that it wasn’t. Join this class and find out how you can ensure accuracy and trust the information you find. Class is on Friday, April 5, 12, and 19, at 1:00 p.m. Please register (253-756-0601).

Diabetes Screening
It’s that time of year when someone comes out from the Diabetes Association of Pierce County to perform glucose testing. This year she is coming Monday, April 29, at 11:00 a.m. No registration, come between 11:00 and noon and must be over 18.

Health Series – Diabetes
We have been searching for someone to provide a Health Series on pertinent topics to seniors. We are very fortunate to have found a retired health education nurse, Beth Lamanna, to present. Topics will vary, and if you have a specific topic you would like covered, please let us/her know. The first class will be held on Monday, April 15, at 9:00 a.m.

Women’s Group w/Chris
Sometimes women just need a space to talk or cut up. This group can be a safe area if you need to discuss something serious or just to socialize. Join the first Women’s Group on the first Thursday of each month , April 4, at 12:30. Chris Johns will lead the group!

BEACON SENIOR CENTER

415 S. 13th Street, Tacoma  253-327-1228

Temporarily Closed for Renovations – April 1 – 26, 2024

If you have driven by The Beacon Activity Center, a valued resource for both seniors and youth in our community, you may have noticed its upgrades. The City of Tacoma has been making significant progress in renovating this essential multigenerational facility.  The installation of a new HVAC system will be one of the final steps in this process, which aims to enhance the comfort of the center in preparation for the warmer months ahead.

Please note, to facilitate these final renovations, the Beacon Activity Center will temporarily close its doors from April 1, 2024, to April 26, 2024. While we recognize the inconvenience this may pose to our regular visitors, we are excited to invite you to the Lighthouse Activity Center or Pt. Defiance~Ruston Senior Center during this period. Lighthouse and Beacon have combined their programs, providing an opportunity for participants to explore new activities and enjoy an increased number of social events, including dances.

Rest assured; the familiar faces of Beacon’s staff will be present at Lighthouse to welcome you. This transition period offers a unique chance for our community members to engage in a wider array of activities and to connect with an extended community. We thank you for your understanding and look forward to welcoming you back to the newly upgraded Beacon Activity Center at the end of April.
