Alzheimer's/Dementia ~ Our Place
Our Place is a specially designed, newly-built, home-like residence for seniors with early stage Alzheimer’s and dementia. These residents have the best view on campus with a lovely and secure balcony overlooking Commencement Bay. Under the 24-hour direction of a Licensed Nurse, Certified Nursing Aides and Activity Coordinators, the Our Place day is structured to maximize the quality of life for residents. Assistance with the activities of daily living is provided to ensure needs are met. Meals are served in a family-style, private dining room. Meaningful activities are designed to enhance each resident’s strengths while bringing pleasure to their days. Programs encourage socialization, reminiscing, movement, use of cognitive function, wellness, spiritual traditions and the maintenance of established hobbies and tasks. Community members may attend Our Place on an hourly day care basis. The goals of Our Place are twofold: to provide a sense of security and belonging through reassuring staff in a place that looks like home; and to add quality of life through a daily routine that incorporates hugs, laughter, smiles, singing, dancing, creating, reflecting and conversing. As shared by one of the residents,” It’s like home. We’re one big, happy family.”
