Giving from the Heart: A Holiday Tradition of Generosity at Franke Tobey Jones

Each December, the spirit of generosity shines brightly across the Franke Tobey Jones campus as team members from multiple departments come together for a shared purpose: creating themed gift baskets for the Point Defiance ~ Ruston Senior Center. What began as a simple act of kindness has grown into a beloved annual tradition—one that reflects the heart, compassion, and community-minded spirit of the Franke Tobey Jones team.

The Point Defiance ~ Ruston Senior Center, operated by Franke Tobey Jones since 1998, serves as a welcoming gathering place for local older adults. During the Center’s annual Holiday Party, the donated baskets are raffled off to attendees. For many seniors, these thoughtfully assembled baskets may be one of their only Christmas gifts—making each one especially meaningful.

Franke Tobey Jones team members enthusiastically collaborate with their teammates to select themes, donate items, and assemble beautiful baskets filled with care and intention. Each basket represents more than its contents; it carries a message of connection, dignity, and remembrance for the seniors who receive them.

This holiday tradition is just one example of the ongoing generosity shown by the Franke Tobey Jones team throughout the year. Team members also participate in the weekly Friday Casual For A Cause program, where they contribute $5—or more—for the opportunity to wear jeans to work on Friday. Funds raised through Casual For A Cause directly support a variety of local nonprofit organizations serving Pierce County and surrounding communities.

In addition, many team members selflessly choose to have a portion of each paycheck deducted to support the FTJ Where Need Is Greatest Fund. These contributions provide direct assistance for a wide range of resident needs across the campus throughout the year, ensuring help is available where and when it is needed most.

Together, these efforts reflect a culture of giving that extends well beyond the campus. Whether through holiday gift baskets, ongoing financial support, or everyday acts of kindness, Franke Tobey Jones team members consistently demonstrate a deep commitment to caring for older adults and strengthening the communities they serve.
