What’s New and Happening

4th of July Party

The 4th of July Party will be held on Friday, June 27 at 11:00 a.m.  The Tacoma Banjo Club has become a standard for the celebration of Independence Day. There will be snacks and goodies.  Since this is a Friday, Catholic Community Services will not be serving lunch.  If you want to order a lunch from Franke Tobey Jones, please order and pay for it by Monday, June 23.  

Beginning Yoga

On Friday, June 6, at 12:00 p.m. Molly Maddock will be starting a new Beginning Yoga Class.  Class continues on all Fridays.  The cost is $10 a month.  Please register.

Balance Begins in Bed

This is an informative and interactive class that discusses and demonstrates exercise moves to improve movement, balance, strength, and more. . .all before you get out of bed.  This class is on Tuesday, June 10, at 10:00 a.m.  Please register.

Bingo is back! 

Bingo has been scheduled twice a month starting May 27th.  It will then be on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. 

Crafts with Kathy

On June 26, at 1:30 p.m., Kathy’s class will participate in a community service program, reaching out to isolated seniors through crafts!  This class will be part of the “Santa’s for Seniors” program.   Be sure to sign up for her classes.

Writer’s Forum

There is a new Writer’s Forum led by Claire Brown, beginning on June 16, and every third Monday thereafter,  at 1:30 p.m.  This is a time in which writer’s can read their work.  Due to time constraints, there will be a five minute time limit per person.  Be sure to sign up!

Beginning Yoga

Molly Maddock will be teaching a Beginning Yoga Class, starting June 6, at 12:00 p.m.  It will continue every Friday.  Cost is $10 per month.

Walks with Fur Babies (or not)

Kate and Hershey will be leading a walk on most Saturday mornings at 9:00 a.m. in Baltimore Park!  Check the calendar for dates.

Liz Ann Johnson Elder Law

Elder law attorney Liz Johnson has been a longtime presenter on many topics at the Point Defiance~Ruston Senior Center. We would like to thank her for the generosity of her time and knowledge. Her practice specializes in estate planning, healthcare directives, Medicare planning, wills, probates, Medicaid appeals, trusts, powers-of-attorney, guardianships, and conservatorships.

She will be joining us again on Tuesday, June 24, at 11 a.m.  The topic is Last Wills and Trusts.

If you would like to participate and you’ve never been to the Point Defiance ~ Ruston Senior Center, please download the following three PDFs, fill them out and bring them with you.   If you are uncomfortable providing some of the information such as income, please leave those sections blank.  The Wellness Release is only necessary if you plan on attending any exercise programs at the Senior Center.  We can’t wait to meet you!
