Plant the Possibilities: Spring Gardening Begins at Point Defiance–Ruston Senior Center

May is when gardens and gardeners come to life.
The days are longer, the soil is ready, and there’s a sense of fresh possibility in the air. It’s the perfect time to start (or restart) your gardening journey, and the Point Defiance–Ruston Senior Center is here to help you grow with confidence all season long.
This year’s Gardening Series is designed to meet you right where you are—whether you’re planting your very first container or tending a flourishing backyard. Each class offers practical ideas, expert guidance, and the chance to connect with others who share your curiosity and love of the outdoors.
Why Start Gardening in May?
Spring is all about beginnings, and gardening offers one of the most rewarding ways to embrace the season. Along the way, it naturally supports:
- Gentle activity that keeps you moving and engaged
- A sense of renewal as you nurture new life from the ground up
- Mental stimulation through learning and planning
- Connection with nature and fellow gardeners
- A feeling of purpose as you watch your efforts take root
In the Pacific Northwest, May is a magical time—cool mornings, mild afternoons, and endless opportunities to grow something beautiful.
