Since 2014, the Tacoma Senior Living Tour has been opening doors—and changing perceptions—about what senior living is truly like today. Over the past decade, more than 1,500 seniors have participated in the tour, many stepping inside a senior living community for the very first time. For many attendees, their only reference point has been memories of a grandparent’s nursing home. What they discover instead is something entirely different. 

This twice-a-year event offers seniors a comfortable, no-pressure opportunity to visit several communities in one day, ask questions, and see firsthand how varied and appealing senior living options can be.

Today’s senior living communities are vibrant, welcoming neighborhoods designed for active adults who want convenience, connection, and peace of mind for the future.

During the Senior Living Tour, guests travel by van to visit several local communities, exploring beautifully designed residences, dining venues, wellness centers, and social spaces. Along the way, they meet residents and staff, ask questions, and experience firsthand the lifestyle these communities offer.

The tour also provides a unique opportunity to compare different styles of senior living. Some communities feature a single building with a range of services under one roof, while others—such as Life Plan Communities—offer a full continuum of care, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing, all on one campus.

Equally important, the tour removes the mystery and uncertainty around senior living. Rather than waiting until a crisis forces a decision, participants can explore their options early, when they have time to consider what type of community and lifestyle best fits their future.

Guests often say the experience is eye-opening. They’re surprised by the beautiful apartments, restaurant-style dining, engaging activities, and the strong sense of community they encounter. Many leave saying, “I had no idea senior living could be like this.”

The Senior Living Tour continues that mission this spring with upcoming tour dates on April 29 and May 6, offering seniors a comfortable and informative way to explore several communities throughout Tacoma and Gig Harbor. Participants will see a range of lifestyles—from communities located in lively urban settings to those with more expansive campuses and natural surroundings.

On April 29, guests will visit:

• Cogir at the Narrows
• Weatherly Inn

On May 6, the tour features Life Plan Communities offering a full continuum of care, including:

• Franke Tobey Jones
• Heron’s Key

The goal of the tour isn’t to convince anyone to move tomorrow. Instead, it’s about education and discovery. Many attendees simply want to understand their options for the future—and they often leave surprised by what they find: spacious apartments, restaurants, fitness centers, art studios, walking paths, and vibrant social calendars. Seats on the tour vans are limited, so early reservations are recommended. There is LOTS of walking, so wear comfortable walking shoes for a day of exploration and discovery.
